Lieutenant Colonel Michael Whiddon enlisted in the Army National Guard as a 92A Automated Logistics Specialist. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi, and received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps in July 1999. In October 1999, Lt. Col. Whiddon reported to his first duty assignment at Fort Hood, Texas, where he served as the Treatment Platoon Leader for Echo Company (Eagle Medics), 4th Forward Support Battalion, 4th Infantry Division. He would later serve as the Ambulance Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and Battalion S-4.
Lt. Col. Whiddon attended the Medical Logistics Officer Course in route to his next assignment at Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center (RWBAHC), Fort Huachuca, AZ. While at RWBAHC, he first served as the Logistics Division Chief, and then in 2004 took command of the Medical Company.
In 2006, Lt. Col. Whiddon volunteered to serve on a Military Transition Team (MiTT) for his next assignment. He deployed for 12 months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-08 as a battalion level MiTT Advisor assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division (9IAD). He served as the team Operations Officer (S-3), the Iraqi Medical Operations Advisor, and the lead advisor for the Iraqi Battalion Executive Officer.
Lt. Col. Whiddon returned from deployment in November 2007, with his follow-on assignment at the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Center and School as the Graduate School Executive Officer. In June 2008, he entered the Baylor University Masters in Healthcare Administration Program. After completion of the didactic year, he attended the first half of his residency at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), Fort Sam Houston, TX, and the second half in the Medical Logistics Management Internship Program (MLMIP) at the United States Army Medical Materiel Agency (USAMMA), Fort Detrick, Maryland. In 2010, Lt. Col. Whiddon reported to Fort Leavenworth, KS, where he completed his Intermediate Level Education (ILE) at the Command and General Staff College (CGSC). He returned to Brooke Army Medical Center in 2011, to serve in the Logistics Division as the Chief, Medical Materiel, and then as the BAMC Executive Officer from 2012-2015. Lt. Col. Whiddon is currently assigned as the Deputy Commander for Administration at McDonald Army Health Center, Fort Eustis, VA.
Lt. Col. Whiddon’s military awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), National Defense Service Medal (1BSD), Iraq Campaign Medal (1BSD), Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
